BNY Mellon hires new custody chief

BNY Mellon has hired Ryan Cuthbertson as global head of custody services. He reports to Emily Portney, CEO of asset servicing. Cuthbertson was most recently head of product for custody and clearing at Standard Chartered.

Cuthbertson replaces Caroline Butler, who will now focus on her role as CEO of digital assets. Butler has been running the custody business, including tax, regulatory and network management, since joining from J.P. Morgan in 2020. In 2021 Butler was voted Global Custodian’s Industry Person of the Year.
